Re-grant permissions after a macOS update

A macOS update or a reinstall of Bouncer can drop the Accessibility and Automation grants. Bouncer checks the real permission state each time it launches, so Settings > Browsers shows what is missing.

  1. Open Safari, Arc, or Dia. macOS can report Automation only while the browser is running.
  2. Open Settings > Browsers and select that browser.
  3. Look for a banner at the top. “Accessibility is disabled. Profile routing won’t work until enabled.” means Accessibility is off. “Automation access is disabled for Safari. Profile routing won’t work until enabled.” means Automation is off for that browser.
  4. Click Open Settings on the banner. Turn on Bouncer in the list that opens, then switch back to Bouncer.
  5. Click the refresh button in the header. Its tooltip is Refresh profiles, or Refresh spaces for Arc.

If Bouncer shows the two-step setup view instead of the list, both grants are gone. Follow Grant Accessibility, then Grant Automation for Safari, Arc, or Dia.

You can also run onboarding again. Click the Bouncer icon in the menu bar, then click Show Onboarding…. The permissions step has the same buttons.

Workspace rules use Accessibility too. When that grant is gone, those rules show an orange triangle in the Rules list. Granting Accessibility again clears it. See Rule warnings.
