Add a rule from a preset

A preset is a ready-made rule for a common site or service. Add one from Browse Presets, then edit it like any other rule.

1. Go to Settings > Rules and click Browse Presets. The Browse Presets window opens.
2. Find a preset. Enter a name in the search field, or click a category at the top. All shows every preset.
3. Click Add on the preset’s row. A popover titled Configure ”…” opens with the preset’s name.
4. Choose a browser under Open in.
5. Choose a profile under Profile, or leave Default. This menu appears only when that browser has profiles.
6. Click Add. The button on the row changes to Added.

Presets that open a native app skip the popover. Bouncer adds them as soon as you click Add.

If you already have a rule for the same domain, the popover shows a banner. For the Google Meet preset it reads “A rule for meet.google.com already exists. Adding this preset will create a duplicate.” You can still add it.

Note

Some presets open links in a private window. If Enable private window routing is off in Settings > Advanced, an alert titled Enable Private Window Routing appears. Click Enable to turn the setting on and add the preset. Click Cancel to stop.

Add a whole category

The Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 categories have an Add All button in their header. Click it. A popover tells you how many rules it will add. Click the button under it to confirm. Once every preset in the category is added, the header reads All Added.

Bouncer has 83 presets. They are grouped like this.

The search field matches a preset’s name, domains, summary, description, and category. When nothing matches, the window reads No presets found.

A preset becomes a normal rule

When you add a preset, Bouncer creates a rule and puts it at the top of the Rules list. It is an ordinary rule. Open it and change the name, the pattern, or the browser, as you would with any rule. See The rule editor.

Editing the rule does not change the preset. Browse Presets stays as it was.
